Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
